Say Yes to NO – Nutritional Supplements

Say Yes to NO – Nutritional Supplements

Nutritional supplements play a major role in the Say Yes to NO plan, because try as you might, it is not always possible to get the right nutrients through the foods you eat alone. Supplements allow you to make targeted contributions, in the appropriate quantities, to your nutritional intake. For increasing your NO production, there are some very specific supplements that can make an enormous difference in how much you boost your NO.

NO production is really the story of two amino acids, L-arginine and L-citrulline. These two key nutrients work together as the fuel that produces NO in the blood vessels. L-arginine is the sole precursor of NO, making its presence in the system a necessity. However, L-arginine alone does not maximize NO production. Instead, it works in conjunction (synergistically) with its sister amino acid L-citrulline. The conversion process from L-arginine to NO yields L-citrulline as a by-product. The L-citrulline by-product is in turn converted back into L-arginine, which can then produce more NO. This “turbo-charging” process is known as the L-arginine/L-citrulline Recycling Pathway and can be accelerated by providing additional L-citrulline to the body to keep the cycle going.

In order to receive sufficient quantities of L-arginine and L-citrulline, you would have to eat very large servings of specific foods that contain these amino acids. Laboratory research done by my colleagues and me has demonstrated that the optimal quantities of L-arginine and L-citrulline cannot be obtained via most reasonable food intake programs. Hence supplements are a critical element of the Say Yes to NO plan, and the most fundamental of the supplements are L-arginine and L-citrulline.

There is more to the Say Yes to NO supplement program than just the two amino acids that produce NO. Antioxidants also play a critical role, serving to protect and stabilize the NO molecules during their brief lifetime in the body. Scores of these protective antioxidants are generated naturally in the body’s cells, ensuring that the internally produced NO is available to generate constructive action. For such key antioxidants as vitamins C and E, along with several others, the body benefits from additional supplementation. As a result, my Say Yes to NO supplement regimen contains targeted antioxidants chosen specifically for their importance to NO production and protection.
